About the Author: Davy Pelssers
THIS SITE WAS CREATED on the 16th of APRIL 2009 - so please give me some time to start preparing the necessary content! Remember: I am working already more than full-time at two customers at this very moment.

Well - this is me with my future wife. The picture was taken at a large SAP New Years event.

What can I tell you?

I am a 32 year old guy, working over nine years as SAP consultant from which the past 3 years as independant or freelance consultant. Nevertheless I collaborate with established consultancy companies within the Benelux since it's quite difficult to actually win a 'project' on your own :-)

If you would like to have a look at my online CV, please go ahead.

As you will see I have worked most of my career in SAP CRM and SAP Security, although I also briefly worked on SAP ISU and SAP BW projects.

Combining my skills as SAP CRM consultant with my skills as SAP authorisation consultant brings me into the "niche" market which is called SAP CRM Security.

Why "niche"?

A) SAP CRM consultants point of view: Well, I know a pretty large number of SAP CRM consultant, from technical to functional consultants, but NONE of them ever did anything in the area of SAP CRM security, or SAP authorizations in general for that matter.

I do not assume they will start doing so, since they either do not like SAP authorizations, or they just want to focus on SAP CRM processes and not on any non-core CRM process related tasks.

B) SAP Security Admin's point of view:  I also have met a lot of SAP security administrators, usually expert in the SAP R/3 authorisation concept. In most cases they also have knowledge of BW authorisations and in very few cases they know anything about SAP CRM security. If they did, than usually that knowledge was so little to really set up any good concept at all. Now let's assume they still could manage up to release 5.0, as long as they were not using the new WEB UI. With the introduction of the new WEB UI you need to build a concept on different levels, should know how UI configuration works, be able to customize in SAP CRM and many other things.

I am very curious to see the evolution in demand of  SAP CRM Security administrators the next coming months to years, since all companies doing an upgrade will face a hard time on the security level of CRM if their local SAP security administrator is not getting thrown into CRM itself.

Why do I think this is the case?

Anyone doing SAP CRM as fuctional/technical consultant rather stays working and specialising in this area instead of also focus on SAP Security. SAP CRM is a very nice SAP module to work in, and since the availability of the new SAP CRM UI (getting rid of the old SAP GUI /IC Webclient and/or People Centric User Interface a.k.a. PCUI screens; you'll know why.

Anyone doing SAP Security (but only SAP Security) usually is never or way too late  involved in the real SAP CRM project and configuration itself. So basically these people do not really learn how SAP CRM works and is designed. So unless you get a real good insight in both aspects you are bound to fail or get a good grip on this specific cross-section topic.

However, the birth of this new UI concept, which from an end-user perspective is actually 5 steps forward, also has a small downside. SAP CRM security concepts and setup, which already was rather difficult up-till release 5.0 now has become a 'nightmare' for the average SAP authorisations consultant who even then most of the time did not really understand how and what.

Within the next coming months I will be working on a website dealing with a combination of SAP CRM functional concepts and configuration together with SAP CRM authorisations, since you'll need to know both aspects if you really want to become a good and real SAP CRM Security consultant.

Why did I decide to create this Website and share a great deal of experience and knowledge with YOU?
There are actually several reasons.

First of all, I told you SAP CRM and Authorisations are somehow my job, but also my hobby. Well -It's kind of nice to be able to write and share your experiences on things you like doing.

Secondly, not Everything will be for free. Some pages will only be made available to those people that actually contribute and share knowledge!

Third, it is an efficient way to get some other people on board that want to share and exchange knowledge in this area, increasing my learning curve.
